Having leftover campaign donations is equivalent to a celebrity on Jeopardy getting the show’s money to donate in his/her name. No one exemplifies that phenomonom more than former-DA John Conte.
Conte still has well over $200,000 left in his campaign account, and has essentially used it as a funding source for charities or causes that he likes, or other random expenditures. His most recent filing, $2214.21 in expenses, includes:
- A total of $717.02 for “Christmas cards” to The Gallery Collection
- Another $225 for postage
- $122.19 to Verizon and AT&T for telephone charges
- $700 to OurLady of Mt. Carmel
- $250 to O’Briens Children Fund
- $100 to Friendly House.
A hell of a lot better than having to spend your own money on Christmas cards.
