Gateway company gets DARPA contract

A WPI-affiliated Gateway Park based company has gotten a $570,000 government contract to research and develop tissue regeneration technology.  It’s the second stage of Department of Defense funding for CellThera, and the “CellThera/WPI team will try to reprogram and engineer cells to replace damaged skeletal muscle and to restore the normal function of that muscle.”

In other regeneration news, Wolverine Origins comes out in May.

Stimulus Watch 2k9: Food Stamps!

Food stamps SNAP is the latest Massachusetts program to get some big stimulus funding.  In Worcester over the weekend, Senator John Kerry and Governor Deval Patrick made the big announcement.

(Is anyone else fascinated by the cities the pols are choosing to make these stimulus announcements, which are comming with increasing frequency?)

As part of his Massachusetts Recovery Plan to secure the state’s economic future, Governor Deval Patrick today joined Senator John Kerry to announce more than $300 million in federal recovery funds to help boost Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and to increase nutritional services for seniors.

The Elderly Nutrition Program will receive $2.1 million – $1.4 million allocated for nutrition programs at senior centers, and $700,000 allocated for home-delivered nutrition programs.
