Earier tonight, the City manager presented the proposed salary increases to his executive team.
He says he’s still committed to hitting those increased salaries ultimately, but admits that “I had not made, prior to the 09 budget, that compelling case.”
With the issue being so contentious, he’s asked for those increases to be placed in contingency until he brings forth the data and information that he feels will make that compelling case. That’ll happen after the budget process.
Councilor Rick Rushton says that the City Manager is underestimating the councilors’ ability to not make “knee-jerk” reactions. He’s asking for O’Brien to bring forth that information as soon as possible, while the budget process is still going on.
“Never…have I attempted to fool the public,” says O’Brien, responding to Rushton’s charges.
