Two Worcester schools tagged as Level 4

Posted by Jeremy Shulkin

A day after the state announced school dropout rates are the lowest they’ve been in a decade, on Wednesday sources have told Worcester Mag that the state tagged Chandler Elementary and Union Hill Elementary as Level 4 schools.  School officials in Worcester are waiting for more information likely to come Thursday to figure out what exactly this means for the future of these schools, but worst-case scenario is if the schools want to apply for federal funding the state has precedence to enact one of four draconian “turnaround” models, some of which include firing the principal and half the staff, shutting down the school, or turning it into a charter.

  1. That’s too bad. I attended Union Hill School back in the Seventies and Early-Eighties. I have a lot of good memories from back in the day. Can’t imagine any of my old teachers would still be there though.
