With speculation running rampant in the days immediately after Senator Ted Kennedy’s death, some pols caught up in the rumor mill are just certain no runs. Take Congressman Jim McGovern, mentioned in various media outlets as a potential candidate for Senator. His spokesman Michael Mershon emails that McGovern is not running for the seat, and will seek reelection. Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray told the press (and supporters) earlier this week that he will almost definitely not seek the seat.
And then take Worcester DA Joe Early Jr., who in one far-out trickle-down scenario passed around town (including by us) had him running for Attorney General. There’s no chance of that happening, says spokesman Tim Connolly.
“The DA has no interest in running for Attorney General and never has,” said Connolly in the days following our column mention of Early last week. “He’s very interested in running for reelection…and looking forward to running for a second term.”
