Joff Smith’s Evaluation

Says O’Brien has faith in the city.

“You work as if you’re on commissions.”

Calls for better delegation so O’Brien can “avoid a nervous breakdown” and serve for “at least a few more years.”

Finance has been a strength.

Economic development: good, but need more.

Management efficiencies: Says he’s done well considering cuts.

Delivery of services: When things don’t get done, its sometimes because O’Brien is overly involved.

Smith makes a “That Friggin’ Beetle” reference to our cover story last week. And then explains it.

Calls for more investment in neighborhoods and parks.

“Overall you have done a really good job.”
