Worcester on a quarter?

The state has launched a poll to choose the symbol that will appear on the back of the Massachusetts quarters in the US state series; several Worcester area landmarks are among the choices.

Elm Park, the Asa Waters Mansion, and Mechanics Hall are among the choices, as are Fanueill Hall and the USS Constitution.  But if a Worcester area option is selected, it comes down to only two options for us: the Miss Worcester Diner and Union Station.

Cast your vote and let us know what you think should win.

  1. The Miss Worcester gets my vote!

  2. What?! No Turtle Boy statue? Come on, let’s show the world what we’re made of!

  3. Oooh! Yes, Turtle Boy – even better!

  4. I was also sad to see no Turtle Boy. Dude is a legend.

Miss Worcester its a legend, both for its personalities who owned it and the great food enjoyed by police and firefighters who stopped in for lunch and catchup on city politics

Miss Worcester Diner is my choice for the quarter.
This diner was the first of the diners produced by the Worcester Lunch Car Company whose building is still there across the street on Quinsig Ave. The Sherwood Diner, a later Worcester Lunch Car Company diner, is presently being restored along with three other diners, in Cranston RI at the Rhode Island Training School by juvenile delinquents, helping these young men develop new skills at the same time restoring the diner. Hopefully, the Sherwood will return to Worcester and be a working diner again at the new site of the Worcester Historical Museum.
