Tuesday’s news of the sale of the Worcester Tornadoes to a Maryland-based owner prompted speculation that the Ripken Baseball Group — founded by former Oriole great Cal Ripken — was the buyer. Not so, said Ripken Group spokesman John Maroon. “There’s absolutely no interest in purchasing the Worcester Tornadoes, and there’s never been a discussion to do so,” Maroon said. He noted that even if there was interest, the Ripken Group would not be able to purchase the team due to conflicting affiliations.
