It’s not often Worcester government gets congratulated for its openness.
But Worcester – along with ‘only’ 48 other communities of the 351 in the Commonwealth – just received Common Cause Massachusetts’ “e-Government Award with Distinction.”
The award is given to communities that “post their governing body’s agenda and minutes, budget information, general by-laws, and–if applicable–their town meeting warrant and results…as well as provide archived governing board agenda and minutes, zoning by-laws, school committee agendas and minutes, agendas and minutes for an additional board or committee, and a calendar with all public meetings.”
Other communities in the area to get the Distinction award include Gardner, Sterling, Sturbridge, Sutton, and West Bolyston.
Getting the “regular” e-Government Award are 117 towns including: Charlton, Dudley, Fitchburg, Holden, Leominster, Millbury and Paxton.
Now…the first person to link to all of that “stuff” on the Worcester website and post it in the comments wins. Prize TBD.
Sad note: There are still 234 municipalities not even getting the basics right.
