Hot on the heels of our cover story about Worcester Regional Airport comes word that new commercial service will be announced in the morning.
There’s no word on who that service will be, but some signs point to US Airways as the carrier.
The source code on usairways.com contains a string that reads:
"homePageReservationEntry$originAirportSmartLogicTextBox" type="text" value="worcester, ma"
And later:
'IsBookable');return false;"
In other words, they are planning on servicing Worcester, but it’s not supposed to be public or bookable on their website yet.
US Airways currently services Fort Myers-Southwest Florida International Airport, fitting in with reports from the Worcester Business Journal that service will be to Southwest Florida.
US Airways Express last flew out of Worcester in 2003.
UPDATE: Earlier tonight, the Boston Herald reported that Direct Air will be the carrier, flying to Orlando-Sanford. Is that Myrtle Beach Direct Air? Casino Direct Air? Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but an Sanford flight would bring us a return to what worked so well for Allegiant last time around.
Myrtle Beach Direct Air, the most likely candidate, does not fly to Orlando currently, but they do have flights to Tampa Bay.
