So last night I am sitting at home flipping the channels and trying to decide whether to watch “Blade:Trinity” or another episode of “The Family Guy” when I came across a repeat of the “City Council debates Hot Dog Carts” fiasco on WCCA.
Now normally I find these City Council televised meetings more boring than whale shit, but as I listened I found out they were debating what will go down in City History as the Hot Dog Cart/Restaurant Feud of 2008.
I can’t believe how totally out of control the meeting was with some city councilors just getting up and speaking whenever they wanted to (then a mayor who seemed more interested in her cell phone, having to reprimand them), a proposal that seems to have been made up and amended on the spot, and how totally confusing this new ordinance was to everyone.
Also, do the people who are on the City Council REALLY think that if I am going out with my wife to dinner at a restaurant that I am going to see a hot dog pushcart and totally abandon our plans and just eat at the pushcart?? How stupid do these jerks really think we are? Well, since they are in office they must think pretty idiotic as this is the most inane and backward thinking rule I have ever heard since my moving to this city 12 years ago.
These dinks can’t even figure out a way to keep pigeons out of the underpass near Union Station when all you have to do is just travel to another city and see that they install little spikes so the birds can land and shit all over the place.
Just another nail in the forward thinking Worcester coffin. Thanks to all who participated.

The Asian longhorned beetle, Anoplophora glabripennis, has arrived in Massachusetts. In fact, it seems to have popped up in the Worcester area and begun to spread. The infestation zone now extends as far as West Boylston according to a story in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. The map you see accompanying this update shows the quarantine area.
Because I am a rather sappy animal lover who can find admirable qualities in nearly every living thing, I admit to having a certain soft spot for certain invasive animal species. The Cuban tree frog, for instance, I found rather friendly and endearing when I used to encounter them in Florida. I could never bring myself to kill one. I once allowed one to ride around on my head, in fact.
If there are any Asian longhorned beetles reading this entry, however, be advised that I feel no such sentiments toward you. In particular, you are hereby warned to stay far away from Wachusett Mountain. If I find you in my study site on the south slope, I will show no mercy. You will be crushed and/or turned over to the authorities and/or fed to a large, spiny lizard.
Asian longhorned beetles kill hardwood trees. That, in turn, destroys polypore habitat which consequently destroys the favored living conditions for more benign Coleoptera like Diaperis maculata and Bolitotherus cornutus and that, my fine speckled arthropods, screws with my research.
You do not want to screw with my research. Anything that interferes with it is to be eliminated.
Were I Captain Kirk, I’d be shaking my fist and shouting “Khaaaaaaaan!” about now. Then again, shouting “Anoplophora!” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

OK, I don’t have time to personally educate every mildly retarded, white trash buffoon who thinks the Worcester suburbs are some sort of cultural high water mark. So if any of you happen to cross paths with one of these douche bags can you please inform them that Worcester is 77.6% white according to the U.S. Census Bureau, 2006 American Community Survey. So if you have a problem with anything in Worcester, blame 77.6% of it on Whitey and the rest on District 2 City Councilor Phil Palmeri.
Thank You.

Now, specifically about Worcester, there’s one argument that people bring up that games the rules (which itself is suggested to be against the rules) but ends up convincing much of the masses…at least enough so that no consensus is ever reached (thus status quo is maintained with the UK Worcester as article “Worcester”). That argument is that US Cities are required by article naming convention to be named “City, State”), like “Worcester, Massachusetts”. Thus, it will never actually reside at “Worcester” therefore that article name is freed up for Worcester, UK’s information to reside there with a link at the top pointing to “Worcester, MA” and the disambiguation page.
It’s a fairly sound argument except for the discussion on what the “primary use” of the word “Worcester” is. There’s no reason not to put the dab at “Worcester” and point to both “Worcester, MA” and “Worcester, UK” from there. The “Boston” article actually has similar issues and the “New York” article frequently bounces back and forth between the state and the city and the dab.
Trying to freeze one version of Wikipedia and call it “right” is worse than trying to wrap your mind around how the entire dysfunction functions relatively smoothly. I usually assume that any argument on an article is pretty much a lot of chest-thumping nonsense (hell, half the time you can wait 2-3 months and just change the content anyways without anyone even noticing or caring at that point). Policies changes are a bigger deal because that’s what everyone will quote when one of these dust-ups occurs and there’s actually a discussion on the article naming/dab policy page surrounding clearing up how to determine an article name’s “primary use” to prevent this whole article moving discussion in the first place.

The future of War Castle (Worcester): Just got on subway near Worcester State (Hoffman stop) College heading to Union Station. What a ride. Where else can a guy find a Rabbi, homeless man, college student and elderly sitting beside one another? Went through the ‘paper’ online. Gov. Tim Murray is in town to announce additional funding for the Canal District. After opening up the blackstone to the sky proper once more, the river has proven to be a viable asset to the community. Newly elected Mayor Anthony Kazarnowicz was recently quoted as “having a heart and tremendous vision for this great city.” The new development at the former airport is going strong. Its basically an extention of Rte. 122 and Goddard Memorial Drive. The newly created neighborhood is a bunch of cul-de-sacs with a great view of the Berkshires. Many of the old Roman Catholic churches have been converted into housing. Although the Vatican recently ruled that only eunechs could hold the office of a priest, the fallout of the sexual abuse scandal years ago has clearly impacted Worcester’s faithful.
