Budget reaction
CLANCY: “They [fixed-income people] can’t afford to spend as much as they did last year.”
Again, the budget hearings start next Tuesday at 4pm, and will continue each Tuesday thereafter.
The budget must be approved by June 20.
The week-by-week schedule will be posted on city’s website tomorrow.
A preliminary schedule for what will be discussed on May 13: Legislative offices, city council, city manager’s office, city manager’s contingency, human resources, health insurance, school department, and others.
Rick Rushton is saying that there may be additional revenues may be coming for the schools in a couple weeks. Everyone on this side of the bar is baffled. Clancy wants to move the school budget hearing to June 10…Lukes says it makes it tough for the School Committee to develop a budget without knowing a bottom line from council. Nix that suggestion.
