Not doing anything tonight?
Check out tonight’s School Committee meeting where – in addition to other budget goodness – School Committee-teer Brian O’Connell is proposing a 150 day school year in order to save money.
We love this outside the box thinking, although, as Tracy notes, it’s not the first time O’Connell has made the move:
Mr. O’Connell also proposed this last year (it passed 5-2, Lukes and Mullaney against), but as far as I know, the law department never got back to them. In a city in which not long ago the City Council was loudly vowing civil disobedience to continue to pollute the water, proposing civil disobedience to raise sufficient funds to run the schools would seem worthy of consideration.
Regardless, O’Connell wins this week’s “Gary Rosen idea we’ll probably never see happen” award, nearly beating out Phil Palmieri’s “tree limbs for sale” act. Congrats, Brian!
