Palmieri’s slim victory over Blank
A bit we weren’t able to fit in today’s Worcesteria analysis of the race:
One of the great surprises of this year’s election season was that District 2 City Councilor Phil Palmieri was without an opponent–he won a close victory in 2005 against Candy Carlson, lost a special election for State Representative earlier this year, and many observers considered him a vulnerable target. But no one stepped up, and Palmieri ran unopposed.
The results of the race show 95.56% of voters chose Phil, while 4.44% wrote-in other names.
But a closer look shows Palmieri’s finish over no one wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Out of the 3177 ballots cast in the District 2 race, only 1658 were cast for Palmieri (according to the still unofficial results). That’s 52%, a slim total considering the opposition.
